Austeam Racing

Put Yourself in the Drivers Seat
What is Austeam Racing?
Austeam racing was formed in June 1996 being the first official online racing league within Australia, Austeam is an online racing league and holds regular seasons in a number of different series (Sims), we all get together to race online as with other like minded people who have the same interest. We have almost 200 active drivers registered with Austeam Racing who come together as one group of people to chat and be involved in our community here.
Originally based from Nascar style of racing we have continued to moved with the times and available simulation racing software to be where we are today. We currently use a number of different software which can include the following:
rFactor
GTR-Evo
GTR-Race07
IL2-1946
IL2-1946 has been made available for our members to get involved in something different and enjoy some free time playing something other than racing games. We have a few father and son members and a number of guys get together for a BBQ night / LAN when we can all around Australia.
If you have any questions please feel free to register and post in our forums, our longer term members (some for over ten years) would only be too happy to provide answer to those they can.
GETTING STARTED
This can sometimes seem a huge step to take, more so if you’ve not been involved in any type of sim racing. The software we support at Austeam has seen some huge fields with fantastic online stability, with the support of our Admin and Series Managers we have some great events over the years their dedicated to providing great value for money can not be thanked enough
We hold races almost every night and as such can and do back the software we use on our servers and would recommend it. Usually it's just a matter of going through the steps here to get yourself up and running. Further help is always at hand on our club forums.
ESSENTIALS – THE RIGHT HARDWARE
It's essential with racing sims that your computer system is capable of running the sim at least at minimal acceptable frame rate. The minimal frame rate you can get away with will vary from sim to sim however be advised we are talking about wheel to wheel racing and everything can and does happen fast (things in racing sims happen at up to 250 mph. in racings sims you're often just centimeters apart so we can race door to door without crashing or causing crashes. Participate in online racing with inadequate equipment or a very low frame rates will usually lead to a lot of frustration for both you and those you're trying to race with.
ESSENTIALS - A QUALITY INTERNET CONNECTION
Racing sims do really need a stable internet connection to run online. Once you have established your high quality connection you may still need tweak to get even more quality. Most of our Members are on ADSL or even cable connections however some are still racing on reliable Dial-Up connections.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED – WHEEL & PEDALS
A good wheel and pedals setup will enhance your sim racing experience and it really is a need to join Austeam Racing. A game pad, keyboard or even a Joystick will do the job the erratic controlling seen is a complete waste of time for everyone concerned, regardless of whether it's supported by the sim or not.
Does it cost anything?
In recent times we have had to adda yealy subsciption upon our members and this is due to the costs for use to hire the servers as well as covering other costs like web hosting, domain etc
Other than the costs of your equipment and the software there are no additional costs to race. Austeam Racing have intoduced a $30 subscription / joining fee even tho we do not agree with the pay to play philosophy we still ahve costs that do require covering.
So in general terms is does not cost you a huge amount to join or race at Austeam Racing. Any additional funds received are completely voluntary by the members and are put back in to the servers or even replacing machines if needed. We have even given back to our members and that’s what makes this league so much different to others.
